Writing
The book itself features 3 seperate stories from the creative minds of Jonathan Hickman, Marc Guggenheim and Murewa Ayodele. And each of them gives a fantastic look at the Fist of Konshu himself. Hickman gives us a dark and brooding futuristic spin on Moon Knight with a sombre tone throughout, whereas Ayodele brings us a super-hero team up with the friendly neighbourhood Spiderman and the interaction between the two is both hilarious and entertaining on equal level. But don’t forget the final instalment from Marc Guggenheim which is told in reverse, and this takes a bit of concentration as you’ll need to remember the panels read in a different direction!
Artwork
Given that there are only 3 distinct colours throughout the book, the primary focus has to be on the artwork itself. And given that there are 3 different storylines, each accompanying artist has their own unique style. Given the futuristic theme of the first story, Chris Bacholo’s artwork compliments this brilliantly and whilst Dotun Akande gives us a more modern take on Moon Knight, it still has a certain Noir feel to the artwork. But it’s Jorge Jorge Fornés’ artwork that really caught my attention. It has that retro feel from the silver age of comic books and this is emphasised further by the colouring, or lack thereof!
Overall
After the conclusion of the fantastic Moon Knight series from Disney+, I was eager to pick this book up. And following on from the other Black, White & Blood titles featuring Wolverine, Daredevil and Elektra, to name but a few, it’s good to see the Fist of Konshu given his own run. Not only that, we get 3 unique Moon Knight stories with exciting storylines and fantastic artwork. What’s not to like? If you’ve enjoyed the other Black, White & Blood titles from Marvel or if you’re just a fan of Moon Knight in general, then you are sure to enjoy this book!
